TOPEKA EDGES THUNDER- Dustin Russell and Dallas Flaman scored power play goals 15 seconds apart, leading the Tarantulas to a 4-3 win on Wednesday night at Topeka. Derek Parker, Paul Esdale and Jason Duda scored goals for the Thunder. The loss was Wichita's first in five games this season at Landon Arena. The Thunder still lead the Park City, Kansas Challenge over Topeka with a record of 6-3-0.
EAGLES OUTLAST THUNDER- Greg Pankewicz' second goal of the game midway through the third period broke a 2-2 and gave the Eagles a much needed 3-2 win over the Thunder on Friday night in Colorado. Paul Esdale scored both goals for the Thunder and appeared to tie the game at the end of regulation, however; it was ruled that the clock hit 0:00 just before the goal went in.
DUDA APPROACHES MILESTONE- Veteran Jason Duda picked up two more points this weekend and is now just two points shy of 600 for his pro career. Duda, who is riding a 13-game scoring streak, leads the CHL with 48 assists and 68 points. He also is third in the CHL with a plus/minus rating of +25. Duda ranks ninth in CHL history with 237 goals and 598 points.
CLAYTON CONTINUES STREAK- Fellow veteran Travis Clayton also picked up two points this weekend, extending his scoring streak to a CHL season-high 19 games. Clayton, who leads the CHL with seven game-winning goals, also ranks second in the CHL with 65 points and 11 power play goals. Clayton ranks seventh in CHL history for goals (240), assists (365) and points (605).
ESDALE KEEPS ROLLING- Paul Esdale scored three more goals this weekend, increasing his total to 15, by far the most among CHL defensemen. With 23 games remaining, Esdale is now just five goals away from tying Dave Doucette's Thunder single-season record for most goals by a defenseman, set all the way back in 1995. With 10, Esdale has already broken Doucette's Thunder single-season record for most power play goals by a defenseman. Esdale also ranks second among all CHL defensemen, with 36 points, one behind Derek Landmesser of Memphis.
THUNDERBOLTS- Rookie Derek Parker leads the CHL with 26 major penalties and 262 penalty minutes...Parker also leads all CHL rookies with a 20.8% shooting percentage...The Thunder ranks second in the CHL on the power play, at 20.8%...The Thunder lead the CHL with 45 first period goals...Wichita ranks second in the CHL with 134 goals scored...Goaltender Jason Flick will be the guest on the Thunder TV Coach's Show, taped every Monday at 5:00 PM at Heroes in Old Town...The show will air on Saturday at Noon on Cox Cable Channel 22, sponsored by Park City...Fans can get discount tickets for all Thunder Sunday thru Thursday home games by picking up a tray liner at any Wichita area McDonald's.
