Amarillo Gorillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Gorillas and the Muscular Dystrophy Association will be teaming up for the third annual Coconut Bowl set for this Sunday at 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Western Bowl located on I-27 and Western.

Gorillas players will serve as team captains for local businesses who have entered teams to help raise money to send children to MDA Summer Camp at CETA Canyon (just outside of Happy, TX).

This is the third year that the Gorillas and the Panhandle Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association have teamed up for this very unique event. Trophies will be given to the top individual fundraiser and the top three fundraising teams.

"We are proud to be teaming up with the MDA again this year," said Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting Denis J. Puska. "This is a great event that helps to send children with MDA to summer camp every year. Our players and the staff enjoy taking part in this activity."

The bowl-a-thon is not the only event the Gorillas and the MDA work together on during the year. The Gorillas are also active participants on the phone bank for the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon.

The local Muscular Dystrophy office serves over 230 people in the Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico area. Money raised through the local MDA event will help provide free comprehensive medical care, monthly clinics at BSA Hospital, support groups, wheelchair purchase and repair and much more.
