Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
J. T. Restko drove home a run in the top of the tenth inning as the Windy City ThunderBolts won a thrilling game in extra innings 3-2.
Both pitchers were masterful early on as through the first four innings, Ross Stout had faced the minimum number of hitters and Jake Laber at one point retired 10 in a row. The ThunderBolts got the first run of the game in the fifth inning as with runners on second and third with one out, Vinnie Scarduzio lined a single through the middle, scoring Gil Zayas for a 1-0 Windy City edge.
The Rascals would tie it an inning later as they were able to load up the bases with one out before Ryan Wehrle hit a sacrifice fly to deep left to bring home Jorge Gutierrez and knot the contest at 1-1.
Windy City would break the tie in the top of the seventh inning as Robert Perry delivered a two out single to left scoring Scarduzio from second and putting the ThunderBolts back up by a run. Windy City would take that lead through two outs in the bottom of the ninth when Scott Robinson provided some heroics for River City as he lifted a homerun to center, tying the game at 2-2.
The ThunderBolts would not be denied this time, however, as Perry led off with a double in the tenth and moved up on a groundout. J. T. Restko came to the plate and singled through the left side to plate Perry for a 3-2 Windy City lead. Nick Hall came in for the bottom of the tenth and was perfect, notching his fifth save of the year.
Ross Stout (10-2) got the win for the Bolts pitching nine innings allowing two runs on four hits, talking the league lead in strikeouts with seven, giving him 103 on the season. Jason Lowey (1-1) took the loss for River City.
The final game against River City is Sunday with Ricky Meinhold (1-0, 4.41) on the mound for Windy City against Daniel Howard (4-4, 5.54) starting for the Rascals. The ThunderBolts return home on Tuesday for Baldy Sour Night at Standard Bank Stadium. All fans coming to the game who participate in the pregame head shaving event to support St. Baldrick's will receive free admission as well as a voucher for a hot dog and a soda.
