
Wild Things Struggle On Mound, Lose 11-3

Washington, Pa.-The Washington Wild Things (33-38), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, squandered a 3-1 lead on Saturday night, losing to the Kalamazoo Kings (45-26) 11-3.
After the Kings took a 1-0 lead, the Wild Things scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, Chris Raniere drove in Jacob Dempsey and Grant Psomas with a single. Matt Sutton then scored on a ground ball by Josh Blackstock.
The Kings took the lead back with four runs in the fifth, all charged to starter Andy Schindling, who left the game before recording an out in the inning. Kalamazoo added another run in each the sixth and seventh innings, including a solo homerun by Kyle Higgins.
The Kings capped off their offensive performance with four runs on two homeruns in the ninth inning. Tim Brown hit a solo shot, followed by a three-run blast by Destan Makonnen.
John Brownwell earned the win for the Kings, allowing three runs in eight innings with seven strikeouts and two walks. Schindling took the loss for the Wild Things, giving up five runs on five hits and five walks in four innings.
The Wild Things and Kings play the final game of a three-game series on Sunday at 6:35 p.m. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:25 p.m. on WJPA 95.3 FM.
