River City Rascals News Release
O'FALLON, MO - Scott Robinson's two-out solo home run in the ninth tied the game at two, but Windy City plated a run in the tenth and held on for a 3-2 victory Friday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. The Rascals dropped to a game and a half back of the Bolts for first place in the West Division.
The Rascals (39-31) trailed 2-1 entering the ninth against Ross Stout (10-2). The Windy City starter retired the first two before Robinson sailed the first pitch over the right centerfield fence, just out of the reach of Robert Perry in center to tie the game at two.
The ThunderBolts (41-30) didn't waste any time in plating a run, scoring one in the tenth. Perry led off with a double to left off Jason Lowey (1-1). After Kraig Binick grounded out to first, J.T. Restko singled on a drawn in infield to push the Bolts out in front 3-2.
Nick Hall came on in the tenth and retired the side in order for his fifth save and preserving the win for Stout.
Jake Laber was outstanding in the other half of the pitcher's duel, working seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Windy City grabbed a 1-0 lead with a run in the fifth off Laber. Gilberto Zayas walked and scored on a Vinnie Scarduzio single with one out. Laber would load the bases for Binick, who grounded out to end the scoring threat.
Jorge Gutierrez led off the sixth with a double off Stout, who then walked two of the next three hitters to load the bases with one out for Ryan Wehrle. The Rascal third baseman launched the first pitch to deep left centerfield, but Binick made the catch up against the wall to hold Wehrle to a sacrifice fly.
Windy City regained the lead in the seventh on a two out Perry single. Dan Jordan led off with a double and Scarduzio walked against Laber. Gilberto Mejia singled to right field and Jordan was thrown out at home plate by Scott Houin. Perry then followed with the single to put the Bolts ahead 2-1.
Stout went nine innings for his tenth victory, surrendering two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. Stout hit his first batter of the season and allowed only his third home run in now 99 innings.
Robinson was 2-4 with the home run and collected his 27th multi-hit game of the season. Gutierrez and Danny Sawyer had the other two Rascal hits.
The Rascals, now 5-6 this season against the ThunderBolts, complete the season series tomorrow with Windy City at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Ricky Meinhold (1-0) will face off with Daniel Howard (4-4) on the bump. First pitch on Purina One Hope Sunday is set for 6
