Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Avon, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers got a blend of clutch hitting and steady pitching from Brent Lysander to capture a victory on Saturday evening as they beat the Midwest Sliders 10-3 at All Pro Freight Stadium.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Tyler Johnson tied the game for Lake Erie in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single. Midwest jumped back on top in the second inning on a two-run homer by Lee Rubin, but the Crushers responded in the third with three runs to grab the lead for good. Gordon Gronkowski drove in Drew Saylor with a single and Eddie Tisdale added a two-run single to put Lake Erie ahead 4-3.
The Crushers gradually added on to their lead as Tisdale brought home Johnson with an RBI single in the fifth. Gronkowski added a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and the Crushers pushed home three more runs in the seventh. Arden McWilliams brought home Tisdale with an RBI single , Brad Griffiths added a sacrifice fly, and Jodam Rivera finished the inning with an RBI groundout. Gronkowski capped off the scoring in the eighth with another sacrifice fly.
Brent Lysander settled down after giving up three runs in the first two innings as he would retire ten batters in a row at one point, and pitched seven strong innings for his eighth win of the season. The right-hander struck out five and allowed only six hits. Jeff Fischer took the loss for Midwest.
"You have to trust yourself and trust your teammates behind you," said Lysander afterwards. "I know with this team I can go out and throw strikes and not worry about whether or not the offense is going to score runs."
The Crushers are now 41-30 on the season and will conclude their four game series with the Sliders on Sunday evening at 5:05 P.M. Alberto Rolon will make the start for Lake Erie.
The Lake Erie Crushers are the newest expansion team in the Frontier League, an independent professional league with 12 teams throughout the Midwest. The team plays its home games at All Pro Freight Stadium, the new 5,000 capacity ballpark located at the intersection of I-90 and Route 611 in Avon. Season tickets and Mini-plans are on sale now!
