Daytona Tortugas News Release
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Daytona had no answer for Clearwater pitching on Saturday night. RHPs Kyle Glogoski and Tyler Carr combined with LHP Keylan Killgore to no-hit the Tortugas, as the Threshers took their third-straight in the series, 5-0, at Spectrum Field.
It was a scoreless affair until the Threshers (5-1, 41-31) got on the board in the fifth. 2B Dalton Guthrie (2-4, 2 R, 2B, 3B) began the attack with a double down the left-field line that deflected off the third baseman's mitt. After stealing third with one out, CF Simón Muzziotti (4-5, R, RBI) brought in the contest's first tally with a single to right. DH Jhailyn Ortiz (1-4, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, SO) followed by punishing an 0-2 pitch to dead center. The blast sailed over the fence for a two-run home run - his 12th of the year - to put Clearwater ahead, 3-0.
The Threshers added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth against the Daytona (2-4, 37-34) bullpen. In the seventh, Clearwater loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a walk before adding a tally on a fielder's choice by C Rodolfo Durán (1-4, 2B, RBI, SO). An inning later, Guthrie tripled with two outs and came home to score on an infield single by SS Nick Maton (3-5, R, RBI, SO).
Daytona put four men on base throughout the contest. The Tortugas picked up a walk in the second, had a runner reach on an error in the third, and then earned two more free passes in the fifth and eighth.
Glogoski (5.0 IP, 2 BB, 5 SO) picked up the win in his Florida State League debut, hurling five hitless innings. Carr (3.0 IP, BB, 4 SO) worked the sixth through eighth innings before Killgore (1.0 IP, SO) finished the no-hitter in the ninth with a fly out to right by 3B Jonathan India (0-3, BB, SO).
RHP Wendolyn Bautista (5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 2 SO) pitched admirably in his return to Daytona, yielding three runs in five frames. However, the 26-year-old suffered his second loss in the circuit this season.
The no-hitter for Clearwater was the first against Daytona since the franchise rebranded to the Tortugas prior to the 2015 season. The last time the Daytona organization was kept off the hit column came on August 2, 2014, when LHP Blake Snell no-hit the Daytona Cubs in a rain-shortened, 5.1-inning contest.
2B Scooter Gennett (0-4, 2 SO) went hitless in his fourth rehab game with Daytona. The 2018 National League All-Star grounded out to second in the first, popped up to short in the third, struck out swinging in the sixth, and struck out looking in the ninth. He also made pair of plays in the field, including a 5-4-3 double play in the eighth.
Daytona will attempt to salvage the final game of the series with LHP Wennington Romero (0-1, 5.11 ERA) expected to get the ball on Sunday. Clearwater is projected to counter with RHP Colton Eastman (4-2, 2.60 ERA).
The Tortugas Pre-Game Show will kick off the broadcast at 12:45 p.m. ET, leading up to the 1:00 p.m. ET start at Spectrum Field. Sunday afternoon's game can be heard on www.daytonatortugas.com or via the TuneIn Radio and MiLB First Pitch apps.
After an off day on Monday, the Tortugas will return to Daytona Beach to open up a nine-game homestand starting with three contests against the Tampa Tarpons, the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, on Tuesday, June 25. It will be a Silver Sluggers Night presented by MetCare at the ballpark, as members of the Tortugas' exclusive 60-and-older club receive a free drink, discounted Michelob Ultra, and a reserved ticket for every Tuesday night home game. Fans will also be able to join in with Baseball Bingo through the night. It will be another Cancer Awareness Night at the ballpark presented by Radiology Imaging Centers. Daytona players and coaches will don special pink-tinted uniforms that highlight many local cancer survivors. Fans are encouraged to come hungry for a Taco Tuesday at The Jack with beef and chicken tacos going for just $2.
Multi-game plans and single-game tickets are still currently available and can be purchased online at www.daytonatortugas.com, or by calling the Tortugas' Ticket Office at (386) 257-3172.
