Threshers Down Mets 7-2 in Rain-Shortened Game

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers defeated the St. Lucie Mets 7-2 in a rain-shortened game on Wednesday afternoon at Spectrum Field.

Threshers starting pitcher Julian Garcia held the Mets to two runs on three hits in six innings to get the win.

The Threshers scored in each of the first three innings against Mets starter Dedniel Nunez to build a 4-0 lead.

Alec Bohm hit a RBI single in the first inning. Dalton Guthrie made it 2-0 with a sac fly in the second. Bohm scored on wild pitch in the third and Rodolfo Duran ripped a RBI single to make it 4-0.

The Mets tried to climb back into the game. Jeremy Vasquez poked a run-scoring double in the fourth to plate Carlos Cortes. In the sixth inning Cortes bashed a long solo home run to right field to cut the deficit to 4-2.

The Threshers broke the game open with three unearned runs off of Kyle Wilson in the home sixth. Ben Aklinski scored on a fielding error by third baseman Blake Tiberi to make it 5-2. Jhailyn Ortiz then belted a two-run double to open up 7-2 advantage.

The game entered a rain delay with one out in the top of the seventh. Play did not resume.

The Mets (31-34) and Threshers (36-29) wrap up the Florida State League's first half on Thursday. First pitch from Spectrum Field is 7 p.m.
