Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - Isiah Gilliam and Giancarlo Stanton each went deep twice to lift the Tampa Tarpons past the Fort Myers Miracle, 6-2, on Wednesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Gilliam's first home run of the night opened the scoring in the second. The Miracle quickly tied the game in the top of the third on a Mark Contreras two-out single.
In the bottom of the third, Stanton, who is with Tampa on a rehab assignment, hammered his first home run of the night off the batter's eye beyond the center field fence. Then in the fifth, with Tampa still in front 2-1, he crushed an opposite field two-run home run to right to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Miracle cut the deficit in half on a Jose Miranda two-out single in the sixth.
In the seventh, with runners at first and second and one out, Michael Helman was robbed of a potential game-tying extra-base hit on a diving catch by center fielder Pablo Olivares.
Isiah Gilliam hit his second home run, a two-run shot in the eighth, to finish the scoring.
Jordan Balazovic (4-1) started for the Miracle and was saddled with his first High-A loss after allowing four runs in five innings. Balazovic walked two and struck out seven. He surrendered three home runs.
Miracle pitching gave up four home runs in the loss.
The Miracle close out the first half of the season on Thursday night. Jhoan Duran (1-5, 3.28) will start for Fort Myers. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
