Three Unearned Runs Give Suns 4-2 Win

HAGERSTOWN, MD - A three-run first inning was enough to propel Hagerstown to a 4-2 victory over the Rome Braves at Municipal Stadium Thursday.
Cody Wilson started it off by homering on the first pitch of the day from Braves starter Gabriel Noguera (L, 2-2). Then after two two-out errors by the Rome defense, Nic Perkins delivered a two-RBI single, giving the Suns a 3-1 lead.
The lead-off hitter has now launched all four of his homers to lead off the bottom of the first frame at Municipal Stadium this season.
Hagerstown (24-29) added one more run in the third inning when Jacob Rhinesmith came around to score on an error. Rome (25-28) made four errors on the day, causing three unearned runs to score against the starter Noguera.
Tim Cate made his first start back from the injured list, and did enough to help his team to victory. Cate (W, 4-3) allowed just one run over five innings of work, striking out three batters and walking just one.
That one run crossed for the Braves in the first inning against Cate. After the first three batters singled to load the bases, Trey Harris, the league's leading hitter, bounced into a double play that forced the opening home.
Ryan Williamson came on to relieve Cate in the sixth, and and was able to keep the lead for the Suns. The lefty spun three solid frames, allowing just one run and striking out six. That one run came across for Rome on an RBI single from Logan Brown in the eighth.
Jackson Stoeckinger (S, 4) took over for WIlliamson in the ninth, and picked up his fourth save of the season with a one-two-three frame. The Kentucky-native now leads the Suns with four saves.
Hagerstown continues their series with the Braves tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. RHP Tomas Alastre (3-3, 5.31 ERA) gets the nod for the Suns, while RHP Jose Olague (4-4, 3.61 ERA) toes the rubber for Rome.
Cinema takes over Municipal Stadium Friday and Saturday with Star Wars night and Harry Potter night, respectively. The Suns play their final game of May against the evil Roman empire tomorrow during Star Wars night. Gates open at 6 p.m. Hagerstown closes the series with Sunday Funday June 2.
