Beer City Tourists Come out Flat

Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - It was not the start to the homestand that the Beer City Tourists were hoping for. The West Virginia Power came into McCormick Field, built an early 8-1 lead, and hung on to take game one from the Tourists by a final score of 8-3.

A pair of errors led to two West Virginia runs but the big blow was a four-run fifth inning that included a trio of doubles, a pair of walks, and a hit-by-pitch. That turned a 4-1 game into an 8-1 game. Beer City's first run came when Willie MacIver doubled and then scored from second on a wild pitch.

The Tourists attempted to climb back into the game. They scored once in the sixth inning on an RBI groundout by MacIver. The Tourists added another in the seventh on a Greg Jones RBI groundout; his first RBI of the season. Unfortunately, the Power were able to prevent the Tourists from inching any closer.

Beer City's bullpen combination of Raymells Rosa and Jacob Bosiokovic combined to pitch four shutout innings. Rosa retired the final six batters he faced and Bosiokovic tossed a pair on perfect innings. The Tourists bullpen has only surrendered two runs over the last four games.

Terrin Vavra, Danny Edgeworth, and Grant Lavigne all collected two hits in the contest. Both of Vavra's hits were doubles.

Friday night features an odd double-header between these two teams. It will begin with the resumption of an April 20th seven-inning contest and finish with the regularly scheduled seven-inning game. The action is set to start at 5:35pm.
