Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - A game BlueClaws team battled from 11-4 down but Rafael Marchan lined out to short to end an 11-10 loss on Thursday night at First National Bank Field.
The BlueClaws (17-35) dropped their third straight game and fell to 0-7 against Greensboro (35-17) this season in losing the first game of their four-game weekend series.
Lakewood had Jake Holmes, who singled and stole second, at second base with one out in the ninth but Jonathan Guzman struck out and Rafael Marchan lined out to short to end the game. Braedan Ogle threw the ninth for his second save of the year.
Trailing 11-6, the BlueClaws drew three walks in the seventh before Cole Stobbe's second home run of the day, a grand slam, pulled the BlueClaws within 11-10. That would be as close as they got in their comeback bid.
The BlueClaws took the lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Luis Garcia. After Greensboro tied the game in the bottom of the first, the BlueClaws re-claimed the lead on a single from Jonathan Guzman in the second. Jake Holmes singled home two more in the third to put the BlueClaws up 4-1.
Greensboro, however, stormed back with six runs in the third inning off Manuel Silva. The inning included a three-run double from Rodolfo Castro and a three-run home run by Connor Kaiser.
Kaiser went 4-5 in the game with four extra base hits.
Stobbe became the first BlueClaw since Rodolfo Duran on August 17th of last season to hit two home runs in a game and the first since Nick Maton on August 13th last year to hit a grand slam.
Guzman, who was one of five BlueClaws with mutli-hit games, was 2-5 and extended his hitting streak to 12. Rafael Marchan had three hits in the loss for the BlueClaws.
The teams continue their series on Friday night at 7:00. RHP Tyler McKay starts for the BlueClaws opposite RHP Osvaldo Bido.
