Tostado Leads GreenJackets Past Columbia

May 30, 2019 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Augusta GreenJackets News Release

North Augusta, SC: Frankie Tostado collected three of the five hits for the GreenJackets on Thursday, and two of them were home runs, to help Augusta win the series opener by a final of 3-2. It was Tostado's first multi-home run game of the season, and the left-hander now has a four-game hitting streak.

Adam Oller was making his first start of the year for the GreenJackets after the Giants signed him last week. After he worked a scoreless 1st inning, Shervyen Newton lined a baseball back to the mound and it struck Oller on the arm. He would have to leave the game after just one inning.

The Jackets turned to Ben Madison out of the bullpen, and Columbia scored the 1st run of the night in the home-half of the 3rd inning. Ronny Mauricio's double scored Gerson Molina and the Fireflies had a 1-0 advantage.

Willy Taveras retired the first 12 batters he faced, but Frankie Tostado changed that with a solo home run to begin the 5th, and it tied the score at one. It was Tostado's 8th home run of the season.

Frankie did it again in the 7th. A solo home run for Tostado put the GreenJackets ahead at 2-1. It was just the 2nd hit of the game for the GreenJackets.

The GreenJackets got an insurance run in the 9th. Diego Rincones ripped an RBI single and Augusta had a 3-1 lead. That run would be crucial. After Jesus Ozoria went 4.1 innings allowing just one run out of the Jackets bullpen, it was Ryan Walker who tried to get the final two outs in the 9th.

After Walker committed an error to load the bases with one out, he'd get two groundouts and Columbia managed to get only one run in the 9th, as they fell 3-2.

Player of the Game: Frankie Tostado, 3-4, 2 HR, 2 RBI

A memorable night for Frankie Tostado was huge for a GreenJackets team that is chasing a 1st half title. Tostado powered the offense and is now 8-16, with three home runs, in his last four games at the plate.

Tomorrow's Game: 7:05 PM @ Columbia Fireflies (New York Mets), Segra Park, Columbia, South Carolina

Pitching Matchup: (COL) RHP Colin Holderman (3-0, 2.66 ERA) vs (AUG) RHP Keaton Winn (2-4, 3.92 ERA)

Keaton Winn will make his 5th start of the year for the GreenJackets. Winn started 2019 as the long reliever for Augusta, going 4+ innings in each of his first four outings. Winn's last start came on May 25th against the Greenville Drive at SRP Park. He went six innings for the 2nd consecutive start, and allowed only three runs. He was a 5th round pick from Iowa Western Community College in 2018. He was also drafted by the Giants the year prior as a 20th round pick.

On the mound for Columbia will be Colin Holderman. The GreenJackets faced Holderman back on May 15th and were only able to score one run against the right-hander. Holderman went five innings on his way to the win that night at SRP Park. He was a 9th round selection out of Heartland Community College in 2018.
