Houston Dynamo FC News Release

HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo will host Mexican giants CF Monterrey tonight in the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup. The match, which is the second leg of the MoneyGram SocioMX Tour, will be televised nationally on Univision Deportes Network and will kick off at 8 p.m. CDT.

GAME INFORMATION:

MATCHUP: Houston Dynamo vs. CF Monterrey

TIME: 8:00 p.m. CDT

TV: Univision Deportes Network (LOCAL CHANNEL GUIDE)

RADIO: None

HERE ARE THREE KEY POINTS YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW AS YOU PREPARE FOR TONIGHT'S MATCH:

1. ALBERTH ELIS, PAST & PRESENT - One player on the pitch tonight will have a very special connection to the match. Dynamo forward Alberth Elis came to Houston from Monterrey prior to the 2017 season on a year-long loan, and the Dynamo completed a full transfer for the Honduran international last offseason. Elis has blossomed into a star with the Dynamo and was named to the 2018 MLS All-Star Team earlier today.

2. FOR THE KIDS - Part of what makes the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup special is the charitable component to it. As an exhibition match, there's nothing significant on the line, but a portion of the net revenue from tonight's match will go to benefit the KIPP Opportunity Campus, the newest facility in the KIPP Houston program. Rather than the trophy for tonight's game being presented to the winning team, instead the captain of the winning team will present the trophy to representatives from KIPP, who are the real winners tonight regardless of the final score.

3. RULES DIFFERENCES - In most ways, the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup is like any other professional soccer match. The teams will play 11-a-side in two 45-minute halves like normal. There are, however, a couple of relatively significant differences in this game than a normal league game:

First, the teams will be allowed unlimited substitutions rather than the usual three, though as normal a player may not re-enter the match after he is subbed out. This allows the managers to get work for more players and allows fans to see more of their favorite players on the pitch during the contest. And second, because this is a "Cup" match, there must be a winner. However, if the match is tied after 90 minutes, there will NOT be any extra time - we will instead proceed directly to penalty kicks. Only one edition of the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup has gone to penalties - two years ago when the Dynamo defeated Real Sociedad from Spain 5-3 on spot kicks.
