Three Nuts Pitchers Combine For No-Hitter
Published on June 25, 2013 under California League (CalL1)
Modesto Nuts News Release
Dan Winkler, Nelson Gonzalez and Scott Oberg combined to no-hit the San Jose Giants last night en route to a 2-0 victory over the first-half champions. The win improved the Nuts record to a perfect 5-0 in the 2nd half. The no-hitter was the first since the Modesto franchise became a Colorado Rockies affiliate and the first for Modesto since 1987.
Winkler, who flirted with a no-hitter in his previous start, threw seven hitless innings, lowering his ERA to a California League best 1.99. Gonzalez kept the no-hitter alive thru the eighth inning. All-Star closer Scott Oberg induced three groundball outs in the 9th to seal the deal.
There were numerous defensive gems throughout the night to keep the Giants off the scoreboard.
