Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Fresh off earning California League Offensive Player of the Week honors, M.P. Cokinos stayed hot with four RBI to lead the JetHawks to a 6-3 win over the Bakersfield Blaze on Monday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
Cokinos hit a two-run double down the right field line in the first inning to put the JetHawks on the board first.
Bakersfield scored runs in the first and second innings off JetHawks starter Tyson Perez to even the score. Perez did not factor into the decision, allowing two runs on five hits over 3 1/3 innings.
Lancaster jumped ahead against Blaze starter Carlos Contreras (3-7) in the top of the sixth. Delino DeShields tried to bunt for a hit to lead off the inning. Contreras fielded the ball but his throw sailed into foul territory allowing DeShields to head all the way to third base.
Carlos Perdomo followed with a single to take the lead and then moved to third base on two wild pitches. Cokinos drove him in with a sacrifice-fly.
Michael Dimock (1-0) pitched out of a bases loaded jam by inducing an inning-ending double play in the fourth inning and tossed a scoreless fifth inning to pick up his first win.
David Rollins, the tandem starter, notched his third save. He allowed one run, a David Vidal home run in the sixth inning, over four innings of work. Rollins struck out seven and walked one while only allowing two hits.
Cokinos and Andrew Aplin each had RBI-singles in the eighth inning to account for Lancaster's final runs.
The JetHawks (5-0, 44-31) will take on the Blaze (1-4, 30-45) in the second game of the series on Tuesday night at 7:45 pm in Bakersfield. Luis Cruz will start for Lancaster against Jonathan Moscot.
