August 5, 2023 - Eastern League (EL)
Erie SeaWolves News Release
Erie and Harrisburg continued to trade blowouts as Erie won on Saturday 8-0.
The SeaWolves opened the scoring in the third inning against DJ Herz, who was making his first start since being acquired by the Cubs in the Jeimer Candelario trade on July 31. Danny Serretti doubled and Ben Malgeri walked with one out. Trei Cruz then reached on Brady House's error, which allowed the first run to score. Justice Bigbie then singled home a second run. Donny Sands smacked a three-run home run, giving Erie a 5-0 lead after three.
In the fourth, Erie tacked on three more against Harrisburg reliever Patrick Ruotolo. With the bases loaded and one out, Bigbie tucked a double into the right-field corner. It scored three runs and gave Erie an 8-0 lead.
Adam Wolf, Tim Naughton, and Blake Holub combined to secure Erie's ninth shutout win of the season. Wolf started and threw four scoreless innings. Naughton tossed the next three and Holub threw the final two. Erie pitching allowed just four singles in the game and struck out 14.
It was the fourth consecutive game between the teams decided by at least seven runs.
Erie looks to split the series on Sunday as Brant Hurter rematches against Dustin Saenz. First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m.
