Will Dion struck out five in a scoreless start, but a two-run double by Jasson Dominguez in the ninth lifts the Somerset Patriots over the Akron RubberDucks 2-0 on Saturday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Somerset finally broke the scoreless tie in the top of the ninth. A single and a walk with two outs kept the inning alive for Dominguez. The Somerset left fielder lined a double off the wall in right to put the Patriots ahead 2-0.
Mound Presence
Dion was lights out in his start for Akron. The left-hander struck out the side in the first and kept the momentum going only allowing three runners into scoring position while striking out five over 5.1 scoreless innings. Tanner Burns entered the game with one on and one out in the sixth and got a flyout and pop out to end the inning. Jack Leftwich tossed three innings of relief allowing two runs while striking out three.
Duck Tales
Akron's best chance came with one out in the seventh when Bryce Ball doubled down the line in left. A groundout and flyout allowed the Patriots to escape the inning without damage. The RubberDucks left four on base while going 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.
Notebook
Bracho recorded his sixth hit of the series and 18th hit of the last two weeks...Game Time: 2:36...Attendance: 5,548.
On the Pond
The RubberDucks will conclude their series against the Somerset Patriots at Canal Park on Sunday, Aug. 6. Sunday's game time has been moved up to 1:05 p.m. due to the weather forecast and the game being the last meeting between the two clubs this season. Gates will open at noon for Youth Sports Day presented by Driving Schools of Ohio. Akron right-hander Ross Carver (1-3, 7.39 ERA) will take on Somerset righty Blane Abeyta (6-5, 5.82 ERA).
