Thompson Leads Sky Carp to Walk-Off Win

BELOIT - Jake Thompson came to the plate in the bottom of the 10th inning Saturday night with a shot of adrenaline and a short memory.
The Sky Carp right fielder had just made a nifty running catch to end a Quad Cities threat in the top of the inning. With Davis Bradshaw standing at second base as the potential winning run in a 7-7 game, Thompson was also charged with trying to forget his evening.
After all, he was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. He quickly turned an evening to forget into a moment for a juiced-up crowd of 1,990 Sky Carp fans to remember.
Thompson roped a double to left field, easily scoring Bradshaw with the decisive run and an 8-7 win. The victory preceded a spectacular fireworks show, and both events sent the happy throng home with smiles on their faces.
The game certainly didn't start out as anything special. Beloit trailed 5-0 after the top of the third inning when the comeback began in earnest.
Zach Zubia got the comeback started in the third inning when he capped an 11-pitch at-bat with a two-run homer to right field to bring the Sky Carp within 5-2.
After the River Bandits extended the advantage to 6-2 with a run in the sixth inning, the Sky Carp got right back into the game with a three-spot in the seventh.
Angeudis Santos hit an infield single that plated Joe Mack to make it 6-3. Zach Zubia later scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to two runs, and Tanner Allen followed with an RBI single to bring the Sky Carp to within 6-5.
Quad Cities added an insurance run in the eighth, but the Sky Carp rallied for a pair of runs in the ninth. Zach Zubia began the inning by drawing a walk and later came in to score on a wild pitch. Jacob Berry hit a two-out single to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
Beloit and Quad Cities will do battle again Sunday at 1:05 in the series finale. We will celebrate Father's Day at the ballpark with Sunday Family Funday, with an added Craft Beer Crawl bonus!
