Thomas Shines Bright in Stars Debut

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars (12-13), the official NBA G League Affiliate of the Utah Jazz, completed a two-game home court sweep of the Texas Legends (14-11) (Dallas Mavericks affiliate), earning a 127-116 victory, led by Stars guard Isaiah Thomas.

In his Salt Lake City debut, Thomas dropped a game-high 32 points in 39 minutes, to go with four assists. Utah Jazz two-way player Micah Potter, dominated the glass, tallying 23 points and 17 rebounds, to notch his fourteenth double-double of the season. Fellow Jazz two-way guard Jason Preston recorded his G-League leading seventh triple-double, and second in as many games with a 30-point, 15 rebound, and 12 assist performance. Meanwhile, Stars guard Isaiah Miller had another 20-point effort off the bench, recording 21 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.

The Stars came out firing in the first quarter, opening on an 11-2 run, and finished with 40 points in the frame. Thomas scored 11 points in his first quarter with Salt Lake City, as the team shot 65 percent, on their way to a 40-28 first quarter lead. Salt Lake City continued to push, as Potter racked up 11 points in the second period, sending the Stars into the locker room with a 74-57 lead.

The Texas defense was not as forgiving in the third quarter, holding Salt Lake City to just 20 points on 19 percent shooting from the floor. The Legends managed to cut the Stars lead to six, before Salt Lake City retaliated, taking a 94-86 lead into the final frame. The Stars pulled away in the fourth, thanks to 14 points respectively from Preston and Miller, securing their third straight win, 127-116.

Texas guard Theo Pinson led the Legends with 22 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds, in 42 minutes. Dallas Mavericks two-way player Greg Brown III tallied 18 points and 10 boards, on an efficient eight-of-12 from the floor.

Up next, the Stars hit the road for a Saturday afternoon showdown in South Dakota with the Sioux Falls Skyforce (Miami Heat affiliate). The contest tips off at 1:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast LIVE on nbagleague.com.
