Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Prince George, B.C. - The Prince George Cougars scored three consecutive power-play goals in the third period to win 6-3 on Friday night over the Edmonton Oil Kings, who opened their six-game road trip with the loss.
The Oil Kings trailed 3-2 heading into the third period, but the final 20 minutes belonged to the Cougars, who scored three straight power-play goals en route to the win. James Dombrowolski, Sena Acolatse and Brett Connolly were the goal scorers in the third, as the Tampa Bay Lightning 2010 first-rounder Connolly made it 6-2 with his 15th of the year with 8:36 to go in the game.
Michael St. Croix scored his second power-play goal of the game - and team-leading eighth goal of the season - with 6:06 to go to make it 6-3, but it was too little too late for the Oil Kings, who dropped to 5-10-0-1 on the season and are now winless in their last nine games.
After being traded to the Oil Kings from the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for fellow netminder Cam Lanigan on Thursday, goalie Jon Groenheyde joined the team in Prince George, but Laurent Brossoit got the start between the pipes for Edmonton. Brossoit let in six of the first nine shots he faced, though, and was replaced by Groenheyde, who made 27 saves on the night.
Nick Buonassisi, Troy Bourke and Brock Hirsche scored the other three Cougars goals, all within the first nine minutes of the game. Dylan Wruck found Griffin Reinhart for a point shot that was tipped in by St. Croix with 3:18 left in the first period to make it 3-1 after one. T.J. Foster set up Klarc Wilson for a top-shelf wrist shot for the lone goal in the second period to make it 3-2 Cougars.
The Oil Kings have outshot their opponents in seven of their nine consecutive losses, putting up 30 or more shots in the other two games. They will try to snap out of their funk when they take on the Cougars (10-7-1-0) again on Saturday night at 8 p.m. MST at the CN Centre in Prince George.
The road trip continues in Chilliwack against the Bruins on Tuesday, Nov. 9 and in Kelowna against the Rockets on Wednesday, Nov. 10. They venture further south to play the Chiefs in Spokane on Friday, Nov. 12, and the trip concludes on Saturday, Nov. 13 against the Ice in Kootenay. The Oil Kings finally return home to Rexall Place to play the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
Individual game tickets for all Oil Kings home games are on sale now and start at just $15 in the ATB Financial Zone. Season seats start at less than $9 per game, with the addition of some new Mini-Packs and Flex Plans this season as well. Tickets are available at any Ticketmaster outlet, online at oilkings.ca, or by calling 780-414-GOAL (4625).
