Cranbrook, BC - The Central Division leading Kootenay Ice got goals from five different players in a 5-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen Saturday night at the Cranbrook Recplex.
The Ice built a 2-0 first period lead on goals from Joe Antilla and Adam Rossignol.
They extended it to 3-0 early in the second period when Matt Fraser scored on a two man advantage.
Justin Kirsch with his team leading eighth goal of the season got Calgary on the board but the Ice responded with two more goals from Jesse Ismond and Luke Paulsen to build a 5-1 lead after forty minutes.
In the third, Hitmen defenceman Kyle Schmidt scored his first goal in the Western Hockey League to round out the scoring.
The Ice outshot the Hitmen 30-24. Calgary went 0-2 on the powerplay while Kootenay was 1-5.
Calgary, who has now lost nine in a row, drops to 4-13 while the win improves the Ice record to 12-4-0-2.
The Hitmen will wrap up their two game road trip Wednesday night in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes
