Frederick Keys News Release

Myrtle Beach, SC - The Keys plated all five of their runs in the first three innings and used three innings each from Ivan Hernandez, Austin Urban, and Mike Burke in a 5-4 win against Myrtle Beach Tuesday night at TicketReturn.com Field. The victory is the fifth straight for the Keys, tying a season-high.

For the second consecutive night, the orange and black used early runs to take an early cushion. In the second, Jeremy Null allowed a Conor Bierfeldt double with one out and an RBI two-bagger with two outs to Jonah Heim for a 1-0 visitors lead.

The next inning, the Keys utilized six straight singles with one out to score four runs. Null surrendered an infield knock to Jay Gonzalez, who advanced to third on a base hit by Erick Salcedo. Wynston Sawyer muscled an RBI out to left field, while Aderlin Rodriguez reached to load the bases. Bierfeldt drove in two with a dunking single to right-center, while Jomar Reyes brought home Rodriguez to make it 5-0.

Hernandez received a spot start for the Keys and faced one over the minimum in his first two innings. In the third, the 'Birds clubbed three straight singles by Rashad Crawford, Charcer Burks, and Ian Happ to get on the scoreboard, while a wild pitch scored Burks to make it 5-2. Hernandez tossed three innings, allowed four hits, two runs, walked one, and struck out one in a no-decision.

Null (2-3) was removed after five frames, as he gave up five runs on nine hits. The Keys had just three hits after the third inning, last threatening in the sixth against Daury Torrez. Reyes singled and Heim doubled to lead off the inning, but the orange and black couldn't capitalize.

Myrtle Beach plated a run in the last half of the sixth against Urban. Jason Vosler rapped a single to right field, advanced to third on a one-out single by Daniel Spingola, and scored on a fielder's choice groundball by Erick Castillo to make it 5-3.

Burke (1) entered in the seventh and retired the first six he faced, but ran into trouble in the ninth. Spingola led off with a single to bring the tying run to the plate. Gleyber Torres pinch-hit and flied out to left while Andrew Ely struck out to push the 'Birds to their final out. Burke served up a Crawford double to make it 5-4, but Burks popped out to left to finalize the game.

Frederick has guaranteed themselves a series win and go for the three-game sweep Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. In a battle of two Carolina League All-Stars, RHP Matthew Grimes (7-3, 1.66) throws for the Keys against Myrtle Beach RHP Jake Stinnett (4-3, 4.24).
