Thinel Tallies Three-Hundred
February 14, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks remain atop the Central Hockey League rankings with a 5-2 victory over the Allen Americans on the road. Mavericks' Team Captain, Sebastien Thinel, tallied his 300th career Central Hockey League goal to contribute towards the win.
The Mavericks were first on the board at the 13:22 mark of the first period when Trevor Kell jumped on a loose puck in front of an unguarded Allen net to take a fortunate lead over the Americans heading into the second period 1-0. Alex Lavoie scored the equalizer for his team only 2 minutes into the second, bringing the Americans back into the game.
Only 52 seconds into the third period, Trevor Kell struck again, tallying his third goal of the season and second of the night over the Allen Americans, assisted this time around by a perfect backhanded pass from Sebastien Thinel, who would further the Mavericks lead with his 300th career CHL goal at the 7:22 mark of the period.
Leading 3-1 the Mavericks fought a hard game against the Americans, with goaltender Shane Owen (the most winningest goaltender in the Central Hockey League) putting up a spectacular performance between the posts to maintain a strong Missouri lead. It was not until the final 6 minutes of the game that the Americans were able to sneak a shot past Owen, giving a false send of hope that they were back in the game only trailing by 1 goal 3-2. Eric Castinguay shut down any Allen celebration with a return goal only 21 seconds later, assisted by Mike Ramsay and Sebastien Thinel. John-Scott Dickson secured the final tally with an empty net goal, assisted by Colt King before the final horn to claim a 5-2 victory for the Mavs. .
Team Captain Sebastien Thinel has been with the Mavericks for the past three seasons and has tallied 65 of his 300 Central Hockey League goals as a Missouri Maverick.
The Mavericks, ranked at the top of the Central Hockey League 4 points ahead of the Rapid City Rush and Allen Americans, play their next game at home at the Independence Events Center on Saturday night at 7:05pm.
