February 14, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

Three Things You Need to Know

1.) First Place Battle- The Missouri Mavericks (28-13-2) and the Allen Americans (26-15-4) meet in a home-and-home series on Friday and Saturday with the top spot in the standings in the balance. Allen is coming off a 4-2 loss against Arizona on Thursday night and the Mavs have been off since Sunday when they were blanked by a 3-0 count by Wichita. The Mavs and Americans have gone head-to-head three times this season with Missouri winning two of those games. Rob Kleebaum and Mike Ramsay each have three goals against Allen and rookies Alex Lavoie and Spencer Asuchak have strong runs against the Mavs with three points apiece. Allen is struggling as of late dropping five of their last six games.

2.) Tulsa Strikes Oil in Rapid City- The hottest team in the CHL is the Tulsa Oilers (23-22-3) who are coming off back-to-back wins in Rapid City and overall are riding a four-game win streak. The Oilers have outscored their opposition 14-7 during their stretch and goalie Shane Madolora has been on fire turning away 96 of 102 shots during his personal three-game win streak. The Oilers have jumped into seventh place in the conference and are sitting just one point behind Brampton for the sixth spot. After an injury slowed him for a short stretch, Kyle Bochek has got hot with his team scoring two goals with three assists and a +5 plus/minus rating over his last four games. Tulsa will host Arizona (22-19-3) on Friday and Saturday in two big games. Arizona is 8-0-1 in their last nine road games and 13-1-2 in their last 16 games overall.

3.) Home Fishing- The Denver Cutthroats (22-13-10) are one of the most dangerous teams on home ice in the CHL earning points in 18 of 23 home contests (13-5-5). The Fish continue their eight-game home stand this weekend with a pair of games against the St. Charles Chill (10-31-5). Denver is 2-0-1 on their home stand with the games versus St. Charles, one versus Allen and two versus Missouri remaining. Rarely playing with the same line-up, the Cutthroats have had 10 players called-up to the American Hockley League with forward Robin Soudek pushing them to double-digits with his summons this week. The reigning Oakley Goalie of the Week, Kent Patterson is 4-1-1 over his last six games allowing just 15 goals over those six games.

By the Numbers

18: The number of goals that the Rapid City Rush (28-17-0) have scored over their current stretch that has them 1-7-0 over their last eight games (2.25 goals per game). The Rush are tied with Allen for second place and are currently just two points behind Missouri. Rapid City travels to Moline, Illinois for a pair of games against the Quad City Mallards (22-11-8) on Friday/Saturday.

One-Timers

-Allen defenseman Tyler Ludwig returned to the line-up last night in the Americans loss versus Arizona and along with the "˜L', Ludwig saw his 14-game point streak come to an end (scored nine goals with nine assists during his streak).

-The Wichita Thunder (20-21-4) head to Brampton for three games against the Beast (23-20-4) this weekend. The two teams have played three 3-2 games this season, all in Wichita, with the Beast winning two of the three games.
