
Thinel Nets Three in 4-2 Win Over Evansville

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - Sebastien Thinel scored three goals for his first hat trick as a Missouri Maverick in the Mavs 4-2 victory over the first-place Evansville IceMen in front of 5,571 fans at Independence Events Center Tuesday night. Andrew Courtney added four points on a goal and three assists, Charlie Effinger stopped 38 of 40 shots by the IceMen and Ed McGrane added two assists in the Mavs 100th win in franchise history. With the win, the Mavs remain in third place in the Turner Conference and now sit just seven points behind the first place Fort Wayne Komets and IceMen with 10 games remaining on their regular season schedule.
Andrew Courtney got the Mavs on the board early, scoring on the Mavs first shot of the game just a minute and a half into regulation. Sebastien Thinel and Mike Wakita were credited with assists on the goal. Evansville appeared to tie the game with three minutes remaining in the period, but officials deemed that the puck had been kicked in by John Ronan. Sean O'Connor tied the game with 59 seconds left in the period, knotting the score at 1-1.
The second period went scoreless and ended with the IceMen leading the Mavs 28-14 in shots through 40 minutes.
Thinel gave the Mavs the lead just 40 seconds into the third period on a whistling slap shot from the slot, putting the Mavs up 2-1. Courtney was credited with his second point on the night with an assist on the goal. Thinel added his second tally of the night six minutes after his first goal with Courtney adding his second assist of the night on the goal. The IceMen responded a minute later on a Malcolm Gwilliam goal. Thinel netted his third goal of the night for his first hat trick as a Maverick. Courtney was credited with his third assist of the night.
The Mavs skated to the 4-2 victory in front of 5,571 fans at Independence Events Center and now sit just seven points back of the first place IceMen and Fort Wayne Komets in the Turner Conference.
The Mavs travel to the Dallas/Fort Worth area this weekend for a pair of games with the Allen Americans Friday and Texas Brahmas on Saturday, before returning home for a Sunday afternoon game against the Tulsa Oilers at Independence Events Center. Faceoff for Sunday's game is 4:05pm.
