Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, Ill. (March 6, 2012)- The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League announced today that they have partnered with the Quad City Fire hockey team to present Hockey for Hailey, a fundraiser for Rock Island second grader Hailey Briggs, Saturday, March 10. The day will feature the Quad City Fire verses Chicago Fire benefit game at 3:00 PM and the Quad City Mallards matchup with the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05 PM.
Hailey Briggs, daughter of Jon and Stacey Briggs, is a student at Jordan Catholic School in Rock Island. She is battling Anaplastic Astrocytoma, a very aggressive brain tumor. She has already undergone a craniotomy, resection and radiation treatment, and has now started a yearlong chemotherapy treatment. As she continues treatment, the Mallards and Quad City Fire look to support the Briggs family with their increasing medical bills.
Hockey for Hailey will start with the Fourth Annual Quad City Fire verses Chicago Fire benefit game at the i wireless Center at 3:00 PM. Quad City Fire, a local recreational hockey team consisting of firefighters from the Quad Cities area, annually play the Chicago Fire Fighters' team to benefit a cause of their choice. This year they are playing for Hailey Briggs. Hailey's father Jon is a Rock Island fire fighter himself.
"We appreciate the support of the Quad City Mallards in promoting our benefit game and helping us raise funds for the Briggs family," said Quad City Fire team captain and Moline fire fighter Chris Elliot. "The Chicago Fire team is excited to make the trip to the Quad Cities again this year, and we look forward to a fun time for a good cause. This partnership shows what a caring organization the Mallards have. It truly means a lot to be able to come together again this season to raise money for a great cause."
Fans are invited to enjoy a day full of hockey to support Hailey. Tickets to the Quad City Fire verses Chicago Fire game also include a ticket the Mallards game that evening against the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05 PM. Lower bowl tickets are available for just $14, which includes admission to both the Quad City Fire and Mallards games. A portion of all ticket sales will benefit Hailey.
Mallards Executive Vice President Ryan Simmons is happy the Mallards can make a difference through initiatives such as Hockey for Hailey. "I think there are a lot of people in our community that would want to help, and I think this is going to go a long way toward raising awareness too," Simmons said. "We're hopeful we can make a difference for Hailey and her family."
Hockey for Hailey tickets can be purchased in advance by Friday, March 9 from Mallards account executive Brandon Morris by calling 309-277-1392. Tickets will also be available at the door of the Quad City Fire game Saturday.
