Laval Rocket News Release
LAVAL - The Laval Rocket is proud to announce a new partnership with Leucan as part of the third edition of the Hockey Fights Cancer game at Place Bell on Saturday, November 16.
The Rocket and Leucan are inviting fans to team up with them to fight pediatric cancer. To raise funds and awareness for cancer-stricken children, the Rocket will join forces with Leucan to encourage hockey fans to sign up for the team's first ever head-shaving initiative - one of Leucan's major fundraising events for close to twenty years - and start their own fundraisers as part of the Hockey Fights Cancer game. Those who wish to, and meet, the fundraising goals will get the chance to have their heads shaved at the rink during the Rocket's game. An impressive collection of prizes will be offered to fans who kickstarted their own fundraisers.
"Leucan has an important place in the hearts of Quebecers because of the significance of its mission and its many contributions to its cause. We are happy to join forces with Leucan to raise funds that will be donated to a cause that can make a real difference in the lives of cancer-stricken children," said Mark Weightman, vice-president of development and operations of Place Bell and the Laval Rocket.
The Hockey Fights Cancer game will mark the culmination of all fundraising initiatives as participants, accompanied by their families, will get the chance to shave their heads at the arena during the game. Fans can also contribute to the cause by purchasing tickets for the game via rocketlaval.com/Leucan. Leucan will receive $4 for each ticket sold.
"This partnership presents the perfect opportunity to get the entire organisation involved in a cause that is so important to us. From the coaching staff to the players, as well as the employees and the fans, everyone will be encouraged to contribute," said Rocket head coach Joël Bouchard.
For over 40 years, Leucan has promoted the recovery and well-being of cancer-stricken children and has supported their families by providing distinctive and tailored services and assistance through every stage of cancer and its side effects. The not-for-profit organisation has raised nearly $1,000,000 a year for pediatric oncology centres of research.
"In 40 years, Leucan has supported and accompanied more than 10,000 families during such difficult times and has given back close to $20 million in funds for clinical research, which has in turn contributed to increasing the survival rate from 15% to 82%", said Pascale Bouchard, Leucan's general manager.
To support the cause, the Rocket encourages its fans to purchase tickets for the Hockey Fights Cancer game on November 16 on the team's website rocketlaval.com/Leucan using the promo code LEUCAN19.
