LEXIGNTON, Ky. - A unique twin bill is scheduled for Applebee's Park on Saturday night. Before the Legends play host to Greensboro, the fans will get treated to vintage baseball between the Cincinnati Red Stockings and the Cincinnati Buckeyes.

Vintage baseball is a re-creation of the game as it was played in the early days of our national pastime. Historic Heritage Village Museum recreates the game as it was played just after the civil war when the only organized clubs were formed in Cincinnati and Ohio.

The game features many similarities to the modern game but some differences as well. In the beginning there was only one umpire and the players themselves help govern the game. The pitcher was just 45 feet from home plate. Three balls were a walk and three missed strikes were a strikeout (fouls did not count).

The terminology was different in the formative stages of baseball as well. An error was called a muff, the Bat was a willow and a ground ball was called a daisy cutter.

It will be a real treat for the casual fan as well as the true baseball enthusiast. The gates open at 5:00 with the vintage baseball game to commence at 5:30. The Legends will battle the Greensboro Bats beginning at 7:05.

For more information on tickets, call the Applebee's Park Box Office at 859-422-RUNS (7867). Come see your Lexington Legends play all summer long during the Summer Of Love.
