The RailCats Have a Tough Night

St. Paul, MN - The Gary South Shore RailCats jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Saturday night at St. Paul and looked to be off a good start to getting their first win of the season. The hometown Saints then scored 13 unanswered runs on the way to an 18-8 win over the RailCats in the third game of the season opening series.

St. Paul pounded out 20 hits and touched up RailCats starter Karl Triana (0-1) for 13 runs with nine earned on the night as the RailCats dropped to 0-3 on the season. Willie Argo cleared the bases with a triple in the first inning and the Saints got six hits in the second on the way to an 11-1 lead. In the third the Saints went deep with back to back homeruns from Angelo Songco and Nate Hanson to make it 13-1.

RailCats starter Karl Triana lasted three innings while St. Paul got six innings from Jeff Shields (1-0) to get the win. The RailCats did manage to score five runs off of Shields on the night the highlight was a three run homer from Jose Sermo who drove in a total of four on the night going two for five.

Manny Arciniega retired all three batters he faced in the seventh while Taylor Black also worked a scoreless eighth. Brennan Metzger had a pair of RBIs and Elbert Devarie had two hits and an RBI.

The teams will close out the four game series at 5:05 pm Sunday in St. Paul at CHS Stadium before the RailCats season opening eight game road trip continues in Sioux City. The game can be heard on 95.9 WEFM and online at RailCatsBaseball.com.
