Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the New York Islanders, have signed rookie defenseman Mathew Deschamps to a contract for the remainder of the season. Deschamps is expected to make his Bullies debut tomorrow when Atlantic City hosts the Peoria Rivermen at 7:05PM.

Deschamps, 24, just completed his collegiate career at the University of Maine this past weekend as the Black Bears were eliminated by Minnesota in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Poughkeepsie, NY native served as one of Maine's assistant captains in 2004-05 and established career-highs with six assists and seven points. He also finished second among Black Bears defensemen with 32 penalty minutes. Deschamps leaves Maine with 26 points and 100 penalty minutes in 111 career games.

Deschamps becomes the third alumnus of the prestigious Maine hockey program to be reunited with Bullies Head Coach Matt Thoams this season joining forward Colin Shields and defenseman Tom Reimann. Thomas was an assistant coach at the University of Maine from 2000-02.

In a separate transaction, the Bullies have released rookie forward Nick Economakos. Economakos was scoreless in 10 games with Atlantic City after signing out of RPI.
