Ferhi Named Gulls Player Of The Month

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls have announced that goaltender Eddy Ferhi has been named the Kristy's MVP/Stewart Benjamin Jewelry Player of the Month for March. Ferhi will be presented the award in a pre-game ceremony before the Friday, April 8 game against the Victoria Salmon Kings.

Ferhi racked up a 5-6-0 record with a 2.67 goals-against average and .916 save percentage in March. He also recorded his first two professional shutouts in a 4-0 victory over the Fresno Falcons on March 5 and a 2-0 win against the Long Beach Ice Dogs on March 25.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 197-pound native of Charenton, France is 13-12-1 overall this season with a 2.78 GAA and .916 save percentage. The American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks assigned him to San Diego on Dec. 10, then again on Jan. 1.

Ferhi was briefly assigned to the Gull by Cincinnati last season and went 1-0-2. He began the 2003-04 season in the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim's NHL training camp.

Before turning pro the 25-year-old netminder spent four seasons playing college hockey for Sacred Heart University. During his collegiate tenure, Ferhi set school records for career and single-season GAA. He also tied a school record in career wins and games played in a season.

In other Gulls news, Wes Rypien was activated from the seven-day injured list Wednesday. He missed three games with a groin injury. Nick Ganga, who has missed the last 15 games with a knee injury, could return to the lineup Friday against the Idaho Steelheads.

San Diego's next three games are against the Steelheads. Friday and Saturday's contests will be in Boise, with both games beginning at 6:05 p.m. (PST). The two will square off again in San Diego Wednesday, April 6 at 7:05 p.m. (PDT). It will be the last "Wacky Wednesday" of the season, featuring "Pooch Party III." All fans are invited to bring their dogs to the game!!!
