The Huskies Defeat the Express to Earn a Playoff Spot

The Huskies went into today's game trying to bounce back after their comeback fell short last night against the Express. Jack Corbell(Miami Ohio) would take the mound for the Huskies, Rece Diethrich(UMD) would start for the Express.
The Huskies got on the board first when Tony Monroy(Georgetown College) would hit an RBI single scoring General McArthur(Missouri Baptist in the 2nd inning.
The Express would take the lead in the top of the 3rd with a two RBI single off the bat of Nick Brueser(Stanford), that would score Spencer Myers(Norte Dame) and Adam LaRock(MATC).
Duluth would tie the game quickly in the bottom of the 3rd with a successful double steal involving Sean Watkins(Cal State LA) and scoring Chris Gilbody(Georgetown College).
The Huskies added one run on a pair of Express errors that scored Nick Sogard(Loyola Marymount) in the bottom of the 5th inning.
Duluth blew the game open in the 6th on a pair of singles first from Monroy scoring Hunter Bigge(Harvard), and then from Augie Isaacson(Friends University) scoring Julian Esobedo(San Diego State). Monroy would score on a 3-1 putout off of the bat of Sogard.
Corbell went 7.0 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 9 hits with 3 strikeouts. Tim Holdgrafer would pitch a flawless 2.0 innings of relief not allowing a hit while striking out three. The Huskies would win the game with a final score of 6-2.
The Huskies will end the season a 6-game road trip that takes them to Rochester, Waterloo, and Bismarck. With their win the Huskies clinch a playoff berth in the 2018 Northwoods League Playoffs, their first berth since 2015.
The Huskies will open a two-game series against the Honkers in Rochester starting tomorrow, first pitch is at 7:05. Coverage begins at 6:55 on 92.1 The Fan.
