
Frogs Roll Past Chinooks on the Road

Mequon, WI. - The visiting Green Bay Bullfrogs (26-40, 14-16) exploded for 10 runs in the first four innings of action to secure a dominant 11-3 triumph over the host Lakeshore Chinooks (29-36, 13-17) at Kapco Park Sunday evening.
The Bullfrogs jumped ahead 2-0 in the opening frame on a two-run single by Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.). The Frogs then tallied a four-spot in the second inning, starting with a two-run blast from Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo (Freshman, Navarro College) to make it a 4-0 lead. A RBI single by Adrian Damla (Sophomore, UC Irvine) and Mihalik's RBI double extends the margin to 6-0.
Lakeshore got one run back in the bottom of the second with a RBI ground out by Jim Govern to trim the deficit to 6-1. Green Bay answered with three runs in the third on a RBI double by Cardoza-Oquendo and a two-run base hit from Keaton Smith (Junior, Nevada) to stretch the advantage to 9-1. The Frogs added another run in the fourth on Blake Nelson's (Junior, Michigan) RBI sacrifice fly to make it 10-1.
The Chinooks tacked on one run each in the sixth and seventh innings to cut the deficit down to 10-3. Green Bay brought home its final run of the contest with a lead-off home run by Cardoza-Oquendo in the eighth to give the Bullfrogs an 11-3 lead. Cardoza-Oquendo posted the lone multi-homer game of the season for Green Bay.
Cardoza-Oquendo finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Frogs offensive attack. Mihalik went 3-for-5 with three runs driven in. Damla was 2-for-4 with a RBI, while Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) finished 2-for-5 at the dish. Smith contributed a 1-for-4 effort with a pair of RBIs.
Green Bay starting pitcher Luke VanLanen (Senior, Valparaiso) earned the win, improving to 1-0. VanLanen allowed three runs through 6 2/3 innings of work with five strikeouts. Lakeshore starter Nate Odahl took the loss, dropping to 3-4.
The Green Bay Bullfrogs hit the road again tomorrow night, facing the Wisconsin Woodchucks for the opener of a two-game road series. First pitch is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start from Athletic Park in Wausau, WI.
