Rockford Rivets News Release

Battle Creek, Mi. - The Rockford Rivets fell 6-5 to the Battle Creek Bombers on Sunday at C.O. Brown Stadium despite out-hitting them eleven to nine.

The top of the fifth was the biggest inning for the Rivets' offense and Kian O'Brien had a sacrifice fly to score one, and Jacob Vander Wal added to more with a two-out double.

The Bombers answer with three of their own in the bottom half of the same inning to take back the lead, and when they tacked on one more in the bottom of the eighth, it was a lead the Rivets could not overcome.

"Offensively, this is the time of year where you're going to have to outscore teams," Rivets' Manager Brian Smith said, "Our offense kept fighting 'til the final out and just came up short."

The Rivets scattered eleven hits in the game. Vander Wal, Tim Lilly, Parker Kelly, and Brock Martin all had multiple hits for Rockford Rivets. Vander Wal went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Rockford Rivets in hits.

The Rivets face off against the Kenosha Kingfish at 7:05 PM at Simmons Stadium.
