The Cup Is Coming

Brandon, MB. -- It may not be here yet but the Stanley Cup will make an appearance at Saturday's Western Hockey League game between the Brandon Wheat Kings and Saskatoon Blades at Westman Communications Group Place.

As part of theScotiabank "Celebration of Hockey" cross Canada tour, fans attending Saturday's game will have a chance to get up close and personal with hockey's holy grail.

Doors to the arena and the 94.7 Star FM Viewing Lounge - where the Cup will be on display - will open at 6:30 p.m. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.

In addition to being available before the game, fans will be able to check out the Cup during the first and second intermissions. As well, both teams will be wearing their Vintage style uniforms for tonight's rematch.

Tonight's Stanley Cup appearance caps a busy weekend at Westman Place as Friday night's series opener between the Wheat Kings and Blades saw two members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers - Buck Pierce and Glenn January - perform the ceremonial opening face-off. As well, the two popular Bombers signed autographs throughout the night.

The Wheat Kings, who dropped the weekend series opener 6-2 on Friday, will also be recognizing veteranDarian Dziurzynski before Saturday's game. The 20-year old Lloydminster, Alberta product, who played the first four years of his Western League career in Saskatoon, became the second Wheat King in the past month to reach the 300-game plateau on Friday night.

Brandon enters Saturday's game with a record of 36-28-1-3 and sit three points back of both Regina and Saskatoon in the WHL's Eastern Conference standings. The Wheat Kings need just one more point or a loss by the ninth place Red Deer Rebels to clinch a berth into the playoffs for a club record 12th straight season.

The Wheat Kings will close out the 2011-12 regular season this coming week with a game against Moose Jaw on Wednesday night -Rain Check Night - and then a home and home series with the Pats.
