Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. â Frank Thomas will begin his minor league rehab assignment this Tuesday night as the Charlotte Knights hit the road to begin a four game series against the Ottawa Lynx and then four more against the Buffalo Bisons.
Thomas' left ankle, injured fielding a grounder on June 17 was surgically repaired on Oct. 6 when doctors inserted a bone graft and two screws to repair the partial stress fracture.
When asked about his assignment to Charlotte Thomas said, "I have no problem with that. A lot of guys there (with Charlotte) are big leaguers. Ben Davis is there. Ricky Gutierrez. So, I'll be playing with big league guys." Thomas also stated, "It won't affect me at all. I have no problem with the bus rides. It's good to get back to your roots."
The Two-time MVP batted .271 with 18 home runs and 49 RBIs before being placed on the disabled list July 7 of last year. In his 15 major league seasons, Thomas is a career .308 hitter with 436 home runs, and along with Barry Bonds, one of only two active players with a .300 career average, 400 home runs, 1,000 RBIs, 1,000 runs and 1,000 walks.
