Gwinnett Stripers News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY- Richmond Braves outfielder Bill McCarthy is the International League Batter of the Week for May 9-15. McCarthy abused International League pitching at a .565 clip last week to earn the award.
McCarthy's huge week was highlighted by a six-for-six performance against Louisville Saturday that tied Jeff Geach's 1976 franchise record for most hits in a game. He followed that with a game-winning hit in the ninth inning Sunday. McCarthy's 13-for-23 week included a home run and 10 RBI in seven games. McCarthy drove his batting average from .234 to .343 for the season. McCarthy is the first R-Brave to earn a league award this season.
The Braves are on a 10 game road trip that moves to Norfolk for the first of a four game home and home series Tuesday at 7:15 PM. The Braves will send Daniel Curtis to the mound against Mike Matthews. For more information please call 804-359-4444 or visit the Braves on the web at www.rbraves.com.
