The Ball drops on Lowell in Bridgeport with 6-0 loss

Bridgeport, Conn. - Wade Dubielewicz stopped 24 shots to lead the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (15-18-2-1) to a 6-0 victory over the Lowell Lock Monsters (13-18-1-4) at Harbor Yard on Saturday afternoon.

The game started with good tempo and end-to-end action. The Lock Monsters earned a pair of early power plays and kept the puck deep in the Bridgeport zone for much of the opening frame, but could not convert. Eventually it was the Sound Tigers taking the 1-0 advantage when Travis Brigley chipped in a cross ice feed from off the left post. Just under two minutes later they made it 2-0, with Matt Koalska pounding away at the loose puck during a goalmouth scramble. Later in the period, the Tigers added a power play tally to make it 3-0, and they held the lead after one despite an even 10-10 tally on the shot board.

The Lock Monsters struggled to get on the board and G Wade Dubielewicz continued to play strong against Lowell. He made a big save on a Johnny Boychuk one-timer while Lowell was on one of their three second period power plays. Meanwhile, the Sound Tigers struggled just to get offensive chances, putting only one shot on Nastiuk for the first 14 minutes of the period. Lowell finished the last eight minutes of the middle stanza without a shot but led 6-2 in the frame.

Bridgeport added two more in the middle of the third and a power play tally late to build their advantage to six goals. The Lock Monsters, despite enjoying a shot advantage the entire game, could not wrestle free from the Sound Tigers grip, having dropped all four meetings by a combined score of 20-3. Dubielewicz finished the game with 24 saves and has allowed just three goals in four games (260 minutes) in the season series. Brigley finished the game with a pair of tallies, while Sean Bergenheim added a third period goal and an assist.

Monsters Memos: C Mike Zigomanis and C Krys Kolanos both played in their first game with the Monsters today... G Vitaly Kolesnik returned to the Lowell lineup for the first time since being recalled by Colorado on December 6th, backing up Nastiuk this afternoon.

The Monsters hit the road for their next four and return to face the Providence Bruins on Saturday, January 14th. The first 2,500 fans will get a Lock Monsters winter cap, courtesy of TD Banknorth. It's also Locks of Love night, and Fantastic Sam's will be on hand trimming hair and collecting donations for Locks of Love - a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
