WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Washington Capitals have recalled goaltender Maxime Daigneault from the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL and center Dave Steckel from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced.

Both players are second-year pros who could make their NHL debuts this afternoon as the Capitals host the Philadelphia Flyers at the MCI Center at 1 p.m.

Steckel, 23, is a 6'5", 215-pound native of Westbend, Wisc. A former first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings (30th overall in 2001), he was signed by the Capitals as a free agent on Aug. 25, 2005. Steckel stands eighth on the Bears in scoring with 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) through 35 games, with a +4 plus/minus rating and 24 penalty minutes.

Steckel, who will wear No. 70 for the Capitals, could face his college teammate from Ohio State, R.J. Umberger, in today's game against the Flyers. The pair are two of three Buckeye alumni in the NHL (Vancouver's Ryan Kesler is the third).

Daigneault, 21, was the Capitals' second-round choice (59th overall) in the 2002 NHL Draft. The 6'3", 205-pound native of St-Jacques-le-Mineur, Quebec, was recalled from South Carolina, Washington's ECHL affiliate, due to an injury to goaltender Brent Johnson. Daigneault has a 10-9-4 record, a 3.21 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage for the Stingrays this season.

HERSHEY faces the Philadelphia Phantoms at 5:00 p.m. today, with tickets available at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 508-BEAR. The BEARS last faced the Phantoms on November 18 and scored a franchise record seven power play goals en route to a 7-2 victory at GIANT Center. The win was the most lopsided for HERSHEY against the Phantoms since Philadelphia joined the league in 1996-97.
