Hamilton Defeated by Peoria

Peoria, IL- The Hamilton Bulldogs ended the 2005 year by dropping a 5-1 decision to the Peoria Rivermen on Saturday night at the Peoria Civic Center - Carver Arena.

Trent Whitfield gave Peoria a 1-0 lead at the 11:00 mark of the first period when he scored with the Rivermen on a two-man advantage.

Peoria extended their lead just 3:36 into the second frame when Rocky Thompson potted his first goal of the season. Troy Riddle's attempted shot from the slot did not get through and Thompson picked up the loose puck in front and fired it into the net.

Trevor Byrne gave the Rivermen a 3-0 lead at 6:43 with Peoria on the power play when he jammed-in the puck after Danis made the initial save on Lee Stempniak's shot.

Just 1:08 later, the Rivermen took a 4-0 lead when DiSalvatore skated behind Hamilton's net and centered the puck to Mike Glumac, who snapped a one-time shot over Danis' glove.

Zack Fitzgerald scored Peoria's fourth goal of the period, and fifth of the game, at 17:22 when his shot from the point found the back of the net.

Hamilton ended the shutout bid of Rivermen goaltender Chis Beckford-Tseu at 7:24 of the third period when Jonathan Ferland netted his fifth goal of the season. Ferland, who was streaking towards the net, buried the rebound after Beckford-Tseu stopped Lucas Lawson's shot from the left wing. Lawson earned his first point as a Bulldog on the play by picking up the lone assist.

Danis made 38 saves, while Beckford-Tseu stopped 24 of 25 shots he faced and was named the game's third star.

Hamilton was 0 for 6 on the power play, while Peoria was 2 for 8.

The Bulldogs next action will take place on Wednesday, January 4, when the team begins a five-game home stand by facing the Grand Rapids Griffins. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
