Iowa Falls 4-2 in New Year's Eve Game

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars were unable to close-out 2005 in fashion, losing 4-2 to the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on New Year's Eve. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak against the Knights and broke the Stars five-game home winning streak. Iowa is 17-14-1-1, 36 points overall.
Rookie Zack Stortini put the Stars ahead 1-0 midway through the first period with his second goal of the season. It was Stortini's first goal in 20 games. He holds the record for the first goal in Stars history on October 6th. Yan Stastny gave the Stars a 2-0 lead just 1:29 later with his eighth goal of the season.
After the second Iowa goal, Omaha pulled goalie Chris McElhinney after he allowed two goals on three shots. Brent Krahn entered the game and stoned Iowa the rest of the way, stopping 11 of 11 shots.
Forward Vojtech Polak finished the night with two assists and now has seven points in seven games: 7(3/4/7). With an assist in the first period on Stortini's goal, Toby Petersen now has five assists in his last six games: 6(0/5/5).
The loss was just the first time the Stars have lost in regulation when they held the lead after two periods, making their record 12-1-1-0. The Stars registered a season-low four penalty minutes in the loss.
NEXT GAME: The Iowa Stars are in Milwaukee on January 5th and in Chicago on January 7th before returning home to Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday, January 10th to host the Cleveland Barons.
