Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal - The Montreal Alouettes announced on Wednesday that they have reached an agreement with All-Star player Jabar Westerman to a three-year deal, linking one of the most talented national defensive tackle of the country with the club through 2019.
Westerman (6'2'', 280 lbs.) is coming to the Alouettes after spending five years with the BC Lions where he amassed a total of 88 defensive tackles, including 13 for losses and 17 quarterback sacks in 85 regular season appearances. He also collected four forced fumbles and an interception since his CFL debut. He experienced his best moments in the CFL last year as he cumulated 17 defensive tackles and five sacks in 16 games. The 27-year-old added nine defensive tackles in six playoff games with BC.
"Jabar is an incredible force inside the trenches and he has a nice mix of size, character, speed and pure strength", declared Alouettes General Manager Kavis Reed. "We are extremely happy to add him to the mix. We really feel the acquisition of Jabar will strengthen even more our defensive line group for the years to come."
Westerman moved to Brampton, ON when he was 10-year-old. The Fort Lauderdale, FL native was selected in the first round (2nd overall) in the 2012 CFL Canadian Draft by the BC Lions. He is a product of the Eastern Michigan Eagles football program where he played 23 games in two seasons, collecting 48 tackles and 5.5 quarterback sacks. Westerman was named the 2012 West Division Most Outstanding Rookie. He is the brother of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive end Jamaal Westerman.
