TORONTO - The Toronto Argonauts announced today that the club has signed international linebacker Winston Venable to a contract that will see him don Double Blue through the 2018 season.
Venable, a 5-11, 220-pound, native of San Rafael, California, comes to Toronto after playing four seasons with the Montreal Alouettes. In 57 career regular season games, he registered 242 tackles, 26 special teams tackles,12 sacks, five forced fumbles and one fumble recovery which was returned for a touchdown. The 2015 CFL and East Division All-Star posted 88 tackles, four special team tackles, a forced fumble and a career-high seven sacks last season.
The Boise State product played two seasons with the Broncos after transferring from Glendale Community College.In 27 games, he registered 116 total tackles, 17.5 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, two interceptions and two pass deflections. Following a 2010 Fiesta Bowl performance that was highlighted by a game-sealing interception against TCU, he spent the 2011 NFL season with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent. In 12 games with the Bears, he registered eight tackles.
