Calgary Stampeders News Release
The Calgary Stampeders have signed free-agent national linebacker Beau Landry.
Landry spent the first three seasons of his career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, working primarily on special teams. In 36 career regular-season games, Landry has recorded 28 special-teams tackles while adding one defensive tackle and two forced fumbles. He was also in uniform for three playoff games and the 2014 Grey Cup.
"Beau is a young man we really liked coming out of college," said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel. "His 2016 season was injury-shortened but he was a very good special-teams contributor during his time with the Ticats and I'm looking forward to seeing him come into camp with us and compete for a job not only on special teams but also on defence."
Landry was selected by Hamilton in the first round (eighth overall) in the 2014 draft. He was a first-team Ontario all-star and all-Canadian at the University of Western Ontario as a defensive back in 2011 and as a linebacker in 2013. In four seasons with the Mustangs, the Kitchener, Ont., product had 130.5 tackles, six sacks, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and four interceptions.
"I'm really excited for the next chapter of my career," said Landry. "Calgary has been a top-tier organization since I started playing in the CFL and I'm excited to be a part of that and to contribute in any way I can."
Landry was limited to six games in 2016 because of a concussion.
"I'm 100 per cent healthy now and I'm ready to go," he said.
