Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 25)- A two goal effort by Tyler Skworchinski couldn't put the Brahmas on the winning side of a tilt with the Odessa Jackalopes as they lost 5-3 Wednesday evening.
Odessa came to town with their top ranked powerplay and proved it's lethality when a rebound to Brett Jaeger's left found the open net on the Jackalopes first shot of the game. Sebastien Thinel was credited with the goal. Texas followed up when the relentless line of James Hiebert, Tyler Skworchinski and Matt Burto hit the ice and broke in goaltender Joel Martin, peppering shots until the eventual game tying goal went in from Skworchinski. The Jackalopes were rattled from the goal causing a melee behind the net during the Brahmas celebration, sending Hiebert and Skworchinski, in the box for Texas and Garrett Gruenke and Kenny Bernard in for Odessa. As seconds ticked away in the remainder of the first Jacks forward Kory Karlander took a 3-on-2 breakaway and converted for the 2-1 lead.
It was another penalty on Texas that got them in trouble in the second when Collin Circelli shot the puck past Jaeger seven seconds into the powerplay for a two goal deficit. The game went into a freeze frame mode at the 13:57 mark in the middle frame when Justin Kinnunen's shot squeezed past the pads of Martin and crept over the goal line to be hidden by the goaltender. After bodies were moved and the ref caught sight of the puck, the Brahmas were credited with their second of the night. Minutes later Jeff Pierce regained the two goal lead for the visitors when he took a pass from Philippe Plante as he came out of the penalty box and scored his fourth goal of the season on a breakaway.
The game seemed to get out of reach for the Brahmas on the first night of "Military Nights" at NYTEX when Dave Van Drunen scored Odessa's fifth of the night on a fluke goal that arched over Jaeger's head escaped into the net. The fans were able to one last hoorah in the game as Skworchinski netted his second goal in the game, but the effort was not enough as Texas fell 5-3.
The Brahmas will now head north to visit the Tulsa Oilers for an Oklahoma-Texas battle on Friday night. Saturday Texas will meet up with their Metroplex counterpart, the Americans, for a 7:35 PM game. The second and final night of "Military Nights" is Sunday against the Tulsa Oilers at 4:05 PM. Immediately following the game the Brahmas will host a game worn jersey auction of the special "Lady Liberty" jerseys the players have donned on the commemorative games. The auction will take place in Section D, behind the Brahmas bench. To purchase tickets to Sunday's matinee, please call (817) 336-4423 or log on to www.brahmas.com.
