Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(Allen, TX) --- A three-goal rally in the third period, led by Louis Dumont and Derek Landmesser, helped the Mississippi RiverKings defeat the Allen Americans on Wednesday, November 25, in Allen, Texas. The Americans scored first at 8:26 of the period, when Nino Musitelli netted his second goal of the year, which held up for the remainder of the period for a 1-0 after twenty minutes of play. Allen out shot the RiverKings by a 16-14 margin in the second period, but neither team scored in the session as the Americans held a 1-0 lead after two periods.
Entering the final period, the RiverKings had not won in seven games when they trailed after two periods and Allen was 7-0-0 in games where they led after two periods. But, in the third period, Mississippi tied the game at 9:31 when defenseman Derek Landmesser blasted a goal from the point, assisted by Ryan Campbell and Ryan Held. Landmesser netted his first power play goal of the season and third goal of the year overall. Dumont got the eventual game-winning goal nearly two minutes later at 11:26 poking in a loose puck in front of the net for a 2-1 Mississippi lead, assisted by Landmesser. Cam Severson added an insurance goal on the power play at 18:58, deflecting a shot from Steve Makway and also assisted by Dumont, for the final 3-1 score. Allen outshot the RiverKings 40-29 for the contest, but the RiverKings scored twice on the power play in six attempts, while Allen was scoreless in seven opportunities.
With the win, the RiverKings moved back above.500 at 9-8-1, while the Americans fell to 10-4-1 for the year. The RiverKings victory stopped a four-game winning streak by the Americans. Mississippi now has a two-game winning streak going into a weekend set in Rapid City Friday night and Saturday afternoon, before coming home to host the Colorado Eagles on "Teddy Bear Toss" night on Friday, December 4 at 7:05 PM.
