Texas Stars News Release
HAMILTON, ON - Colton Sceviour scored his 13th goal of the season, which ties him for the AHL lead in goals, but the Texas Stars suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Hamilton Bulldogs Tuesday night at Copps Coliseum.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead when they capitalized on the game's first power play. Just 11 seconds after William Wrenn was sent to the penalty box for tripping, Nick Tarnasky swept in a rebound at the top of the crease at 7:30 to put Hamilton ahead 1-0. Wrenn added more penalty minutes to the score sheet late in the frame when he dropped the gloves with Bulldogs forward Mike Bluden.
Hamilton got some insurance goals early in the second period from its fourth line. Steve Quailer pounced on a rebound and shot around the out-stretched left pad of Cristopher Nilstorp at 2:49 for his first goal of the season. Then fellow fourth line Stephen MacAulay, playing in his NHL debut, took a great cross-ice back door pass from Louis Leblanc and slammed the puck into open net for his first career AHL goal at 6:17. Tarnasky added his second goal of the night at 11:56 with another close range effort after eluding the Texas defense. The Stars would pull Nilstorp after that goal and replace him with backup Allen York, who saw just two shots in the remaining eight minutes of the period.
Colton Sceviour put Texas on the scoreboard at 6:59 of the third period, scoring his team-leading 13th goal of the year. Sceviour took a pass from Travis Morin and fired a shot from the inside of the right face off circle that beat Tokarski low to the far post and spoiled the shutout. The goal was assisted by Morin and goaltender Allen York. With thoughts of a comeback still germinating in the Stars' minds, Erik Nystrom scored an unassisted goal just 47 seconds later to regain the Bulldogs four-goal lead. Nystrom stripped Cameron Gauce of the puck in the Texas zone and lifted a shot over the glove of York for a 5-1 Hamilton lead. The Stars continued to press as they looked for a foot hold to get back into the game. Morin beat Tokarski with a shot from the slot, but the puck rang harmlessly off the right post. Texas out-shot the Bulldogs 11-6 in the final stanza, but lost 5-1.
Dustin Tokarski recorded his sixth win of the season, making 30 saves on 31 shots in goal for Hamilton. Cristopher Nilstorp took the loss in goal for Texas, stopping 21-of-25 shots in the first 31:56 of action. Allen York played the final 27:51 of action, allowing one goal on eight shots and picking up an assist in a no-decision. The Bulldogs out-shot the Stars 33-31 and went 1-for-2 on the power play, while Texas was 0-for-2 with the man-advantage.
With their three-game road trip complete, the Texas Stars will now return home to host the San Antonio Rampage on Friday, November 22nd against at 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Center. Friday's game is a $3 Beer & $4 Robert Mondavi Private Selection Wine Night and is the Stars' Fleece Ear Warmer giveaway.
