Texas Stars Announce Food Drive & Teddy Bear Toss Results
November 19, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, TX - The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today the results from last week's second annual H-E-B Food Drive Night and fourth annual Teddy Bear Toss Night. The Stars and their fans collected approximately 1,500 lbs. of food for the Capital Area Food Bank of Central Texas and 1,000 stuffed animals for Operation Blue Santa at two collection drives this past week.
On Thursday night, the Stars hosted the second annual H-E-B Food Drive benefiting the Capital Area Food Bank of Central Texas. Fans donated more than 1,400 non-perishable food items at the drive, totaling an estimated 1,500 lbs. The largest single donation came from Mark Harrill, who donated 316 items and won a Texas Stars suite night for his contribution. The team will continue to collect food for the food bank at all remaining H-E-B Nights, held at every Monday-Thursday home game during the season. Fans who bring an H-E-B store-brand non-perishable food item to the box office can receive $5 off their ticket price. The next H-E-B Night is this Wednesday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m.
The team held its fourth annual Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday in support of Operation Blue Santa and the Chuy's Children Giving to Children Parade. Fans brought stuffed animals to the game to throw onto the ice following the Stars' first goal, but had to wait a long time to hear the goal horn as the Stars and visiting Charlotte Checkers took a scoreless game into a shootout. The fans' patience was rewarded when Stars forward Toby Petersen scored the shootout-winning goal in the ninth round, triggering a shower of approximately 1,000 stuffed animals.
The Stars will continue to collect toys for Operation Blue Santa at the remaining November home games. This Wednesday and Friday, fans can bring new, unwrapped toys to The Parking Spot Toy Drive and be registered to win a VIP Experience Package. Also on Wednesday, Goodwill will be on hand to collect gently used household items at the game.
Texas continues its four-game home stand on Wednesday, November 21st as they host the Oklahoma City Barons at 7:30 p.m. for another Winning Wednesday and H-E-B Night at Cedar Park Center. Pro-rated full and partial 2012-13 season seat packages are on sale now. For more information on Texas Stars season tickets call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit www.TexasStarsHockey.com.
