FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS WEEK
The Albany Devils first three-in-three weekend of the season features games in three different locations. The Devils travel to the Rochester Americans Friday at 7:05 pm before playing the Syracuse Crunch Saturday at 5 pm at Times Union Center. The team then hosts the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Sunday at 4 pm at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall.
The Devils have points in five straight games, which is the second-longest active streak in the American Hockey League. During the span, Albany is 2-0-0-3, including a 2-1 win against the Adirondack Phantoms on Nov. 10 and a 5-3 victory at the St. John's IceCaps last Saturday.
After going seven games without a power-play goal, Albany netted a pair of man- advantage goals at St. John's Friday and followed with a power-play tally Saturday. The Devils are 2-1-0-1 when scoring on the power play. On the other side of the special teams' battle, Albany's penalty kill ranks 12th in the league with an 84.7 percentage. In the last 11 outings, the Devils have posted an 89.2 percentage.
Sunday's game at Boardwalk Hall will be the first of four games for the Devils in Atlantic City. They face the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Jan. 13, the Adirondack Phantoms on Jan. 20 and the Hershey Bears on Feb. 24. The Devils have teamed with Price Chopper for a special "Holiday Hat Trick" ticket package. For $45, fans will receive three flex ticket vouchers, a bonus ticket to the Jan. 26 game against Adirondack, a mystery player bobblehead and a $10 gift card to Price Chopper (for the first 250 sold). DEVILS NOTABLES
- The Devils 2.69 goals-against average is seventh-best in the AHL. Jeff Frazee is 3-1-2 with a 2.12 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage and Keith Kinkaid is 1-4-2 with a 2.39 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.
- Jacob Josefson and Matt Anderson are both riding four-game point streaks. Both players have posted two goals and two assists during the run. Josefson leads the Devils with 10 points, including a team-best six goals, and Anderson is second with nine points, including a club-high tying six assists.
- Defensemen Adam Larsson and Jay Leach have contributed offensively in recent games. Larsson has points in three straight games with two goals and two assists and Leach has points in two straight with a goal and two assists. Larsson leads all Devils defensemen and ranks third on the team with eight points (2g-6a). Leach's goal at St. John's Friday was his first since Feb. 27, 2011 against Norfolk.
- Darcy Zajac registered a career-high two goals at St. John's Saturday. In his third season, Zajac has accumulated 36 points, including 15 goals and 21 assists, in 118 games.
- Joe Whitney, who has appeared in seven games, has four points in his last five outings and five points overall. In 80 career games, the Reading, MA native has produced 50 points with 15 goals and 35 assists. Last season, he led Albany with 44 points.
- After going scoreless in the first eight games, Bobby Bulter has two goals in four games. His recent tally was the game-winning goal at St. John's Saturday.
- Last Wednesday, Harry Young was reassigned from Albany to Kalamazoo (ECHL).
LAST WEEK'S RESULTS
Fri., Nov. 16; Albany 3 at St. John's 4 -- Shootout (Mile One Centre)
For the fourth time in six games, the Devils found themselves in a shootout. Friday at St. John's, the Devils lost the head-to-head round, 2-1, and the game, 4-3, at Mile One Centre. The Devils had to fight back to force extra time. Trailing 2-0, they received goals by Jay Leach and Adam Henrique. When St. John's reclaimed the lead in the third period, Jacob Josefson made the score 3-3 with 2:04 remaining.
After a scoreless overtime, Mattias Tedenby and St. John's Alex Burmistrov exchanged first- round goals. Jason Jaffray secured the win for St. John's in the fifth round.
Sat., Nov. 17; Albany 5 at St. John's 3 (Mile One Centre)
The long journey to Newfoundland was worth it for the Devils, grabbing three-out-of-a- possible-four points in a weekend series against the St. John's IceCaps. The Devils responded Saturday with a 5-3 victory at Mile One Centre. Albany had five players with multiple-point nights, including Darcy Zajac who had two goals and Adam Larsson who had a goal and an assist.
Brandon Burlon, Adam Henrique and Jay Leach all registered two assists, while Jacob Josefson and Bobby Butler joined Zajac and Larsson with goals. Goaltender Jeff Frazee made a season-high 39 saves for his third win.
The IceCaps, who trailed for most of the game, received goals from Ivan Telegin, Maxime Macenauer and Jason Gregoire.
THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
Fri., Nov. 23 at Rochester Americans (Blue Cross Arena)
The Rochester Americans dropped a pair of games this past weekend, falling 3-2 against the Abbotsford Heat Friday and 3-2 at the Binghamton Senators Saturday. The Amerks are now 8-6-1-0 (17 pts.), which places them fourth in the North Division and tied for seventh in the Western Conference.
Rochester's offense is tied for fourth in the league with 53 goals. The Americans are led by Marcus Foligno and defenseman T.J. Brennan. Foligno has posted a team-high 16 points with six goals and 10 assists and Brennan has 14 points, including seven goals and seven assists. The Americans have eight players with 10 or more points.
Goaltender David Leggio leads the league for minutes (788:48) and saves (387). He is also second for wins (8). In 13 starts, he is 8-5-0 with a 2.89 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage.

Sat., Nov. 24 vs. Syracuse Crunch (Times Union Center)
Saturday's game will be the second of eight contests between the Devils and Syracuse Crunch this year. Syracuse went 3-0-0-0 last weekend with wins against the Hershey Bears, 6-1, Friday, against the Adirondack Phantoms, 5-2, Saturday and at Hershey, 5-3, Sunday. With a 10-2-1-1 record (22 pts.), the Crunch are first in the East Division and tied for first in the Eastern Conference.
Cory Conacer is first on the team and tied for third in the league with 17 points, including eight goals and nine assists. Tyler Johnson, who is second on the team with 15 points, is tied for the league lead with 10 goals. Ondrej Palat ranks third for Syracuse with 14 points, including two goals and 12 assists.
In net, Dustin Tokarski leads the Crunch with a 7-1-1 record and a 1.97 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage.

Sun., Nov. 25 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Boardwalk Hall)
The Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins split a pair of games last weekend, beating the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 3-1, Friday and falling at the Hershey Bears, 4-1, Saturday. The Penguins have an 8-7-0-0 mark (16 pts.), which is tied for second in the East Division and tied for fifth in the Eastern Conference.
Rookie Beau Bennett leads the team with 11 points, including three goals and eight assists and Eric Tangradi is second with 10 points, including a team-best nine goals and one assist.
The Penguins have used Brad Theissen and Jeff Zatkoff between the pipes. Thiessen is 2-2-0 with a 3.14 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage. Zatkoff is 6-5-0 with a 1.82 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage.
